Sender Policy Framework, or SPF, is a verification system, that is designed to prevent the so-called email spoofing where an email message can be sent from one email address, but to look as being sent from a different one, often with the idea to scam the recipient someway. If SPF protection is enabled for a domain name, a specific record is created for it in the Domain Name System and all DNS servers around the world have it. The record contains all the email servers that are permitted to send legitimate messages from an e-mail address part of the domain. When an e-mail is sent, the very first DNS server it goes to checks the SPF record and in case its sending server is authorized, the message is sent to the targeted destination. If, however, the sending server is not included in the SPF record for the specified domain, the e-mail message will not be forwarded and it'll be discarded. If you use this service, it'll stop third parties from sending spam messages that seem to have been sent by you.

SPF Protection in Hosting

When you host your domain names in a hosting account on our end and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you are able to activate SPF protection for them with a few clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in its own section where you'll be able to see which domains are already protected. For those which aren't, you'll be able to enable the SPF protection option and set up a lot of things at the same time - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and to create a rule that messages can be sent only when your domains include our MX records. The last mentioned option is the most secure one, but you can use it in the event that we handle the email addresses for your domain names and you're not using a different email service provider. The newly created records will be activated within 24 hours and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an e-mail by using your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you host your domain names in a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you'll be able to benefit from the SPF protection feature as part of the regular set of services that you'll receive using this kind of web hosting. Activating the protection will require only a couple of simple steps in the Hepsia Control Panel, therefore even if you've never used such a feature before, you won't have any problems. Using a very easy-to-navigate interface, you will simply have to input the information of the mail server that will be authorized to send messages from your addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). As soon as the recently created record propagates, nobody will be able to fake any e-mail for that particular domain name and send emails from a server different from the one you've entered. This does not specifically have to be our mail server, still if we manage your emails, you'll be able to activate one more level of security by choosing an option that emails can be send from addresses @your-domain.com only in case the domain uses our MX records. Our tech support staff will be able to assist you 24/7 in case you have any kind of questions related to this service.
