SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a web server and execute various tasks via a command line. The protocol is used by many skilled users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access can be employed for a variety of things based on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the web server allows for it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for virtually anything - you may install software or restart certain services including the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is used mainly with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients that enable you to employ the protocol if your laptop or computer is using a different OS as well. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port though many service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

When you have a hosting account with us and you would like to handle your content remotely using SSH, you may get SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package doesn't offer this feature as standard, you can easily add it with a few mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the CP, you will see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You can also pick what password you want to use, as it does not need to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared a lot of Help articles in which you can easily find each of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they're used. In addition, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection using a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to get SSH access to it with a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, offered with all accounts. If your plan does not support this feature by default, you'll be able to include it with ease via the Upgrades menu. When you go to the SSH section, you will find the information which you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, if needed. These login credentials are also needed if you want to upload files through a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we provide. A comprehensive list of the commands that you can execute shall give you a better idea of what tasks you could perform inside your account and each is accompanied by a couple of instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS

The virtual private server offers that we offer provide SSH access by default, not as an optional upgrade or a function that you have to enable. The minute your new server is ready, you will be able to connect and begin working on your content via the login details that you have entered during the order procedure. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e-mail as well. As your VPS will be isolated from the others on the physical web server, there aren't any limitations as to what you can or can't do via SSH. You may download, set up and manage any piece of software that will run on a Linux web server, reboot the whole server or simply a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases with virtually no restrictions. All you will need for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
